Soothing Spaces and Unexpected Leaps, with Julie O’Connor

Julie O’Connor is an RMT and Medical Acupuncturist, and the founder of Pinpoint RMT in Toronto. We love her for her soothing personality and her aftercare apothecary collection.

What have you tried to cultivate in your home?

I'm inspired by Scandinavian design, minimalism and all things white. For me, a home should be the ultimate refuge which translates to clean lines, warm tones and a sense of airiness + balance.

What is your favourite room in your home, and why?

My living room is my favourite room in this apartment because it overlooks a large tree in the backyard and fills my space with light. It’s where I sit and have my morning coffee and do my best thinking.

How do you like to dress for work, in order to do your best work?

My job requires me to move around physically and having to use oil for massage means I can’t dress too fancy. I'm often in black tights and a cotton T-shirt; sort of a self assigned "uniform" which simplifies my work life perfectly.

What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken in your business / something that required you to be brave?

I actually never wanted to have my own business; I didn't want the pressure on my shoulders. I found myself working for a wonderful clinic close to home and everything was working, but I wanted more. I always cared about every detail of my work; the entire experience for clients from the minute they walk in and leave. Sometimes taking the first step is the biggest risk of all because so much momentum comes from making that decision to open your own business. I had no business plan and no funds to execute Pinpoint RMT, just a belief in myself and strong work ethic. Thank goodness for Dads who help with first / last months rent, too!

What’s your number 1 indulgence?

Skincare routines. It took far too long to start caring about my face but now that I do, I’m hooked.

If you were a plant, which one would you be and why?

I would be a big, beautiful monstera plant. I love it's positive impact [it has] in any space :)
