Heirloom Baby Quilt with Kantha

Regular price $215.00 $0.00

goodnight, my angel, now it's time to dream,

and dream how wonderful your life will be. - Billy Joel

Our modern heirloom baby quilts are truly one of a kind and incredibly special. Made lovingly by hand by a master quilter, these quilts utilize the excess botanically-dyed linen from our linen crib sheets making our production of the Baby Capsule zero-waste. Designed to be used, loved, and passed on as an heirloom piece.

Kantha is one of the most ancient forms of embroidery, developed in the pre-Vedic age by Bengali women in what is today known as West Bengal, Orissa, and Bangladesh. It evolved through the creative repurposing of old saris and rags, characterized by a running stitch pattern that binds the layers of textiles together. The historical significance of the craft, passed from mother to daughter, and the way that this method of quilting embodies recycling and giving new life to textiles have us enamoured with this beautiful and traditional style.

In the spirit of kantha’s history, we carefully salvaged the excess linen we had from making our botanically-dyed crib sheets and had it repurposed into these heirloom-quality baby quilts. Every quilt in this limited collection is unique and made lovingly by hand, featuring kantha-style stitching. We hope you can feel the loving labour that went into each of these unique blankets!

This beautiful quilt is intricately-detailed, with kantha running stitches across the entire quilt. The front of the quilt was carefully made using our botanically-dyed linen, and the back is a natural oatmeal-toned cotton.
